BlizzCon 2010 set for October

World of WarCraft creators announce dates for fifth annual convention

Dates for the 2010 BlizzCon event have been announced by Blizzard Entertainment, with the convention due to take place in Anaheim, California on October 22 and 23.

Tickets for the previous event sold out in minutes, with Blizzard traditionally using the convention to reveal new projects or previews.

Last year this included expansion pack World of WarCraft: Cataclysm, a new player class in Diablo III and the first public playable demonstration of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

Specific details have not yet been revealed for this year's event, but they are likely to focus on the imminent StarCraft II in particular.

As usual the conference will also include discussion panels with Blizzard developers, competitive and casual game tournaments, community contests, the chance to buy commemorative merchandise and lots of cosplaying.

"BlizzCon offers us a great opportunity to meet with our players and share our enthusiasm for gaming with one of the most passionate communities in the world," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard.

"We're looking forward to providing another great show filled with entertainment, competition, and the latest information about Blizzard Entertainment games."
