Blitz picks up Technology Award at Birmingham Screen Festival

British development studio Blitz Games has won the inaugural Application of Technology Award at the Birmingham Screen Festival for its use of rendering technology in last Christmas' The Fairly Oddparents title.

British development studio Blitz Games has won the inaugural Application of Technology Award at the Birmingham Screen Festival for its use of rendering technology in last Christmas' The Fairly Oddparents title.

The award, which is designed to recognise an innovative and creative use of technology in screen media, was presented to the Warwickshire based developer at a gala dinner last week.

Blitz used 3D rendering technology to recreate the distinctive visual style of the Fairly Oddparents cartoon series, produced by Nickelodeon, in fully three dimensional game environments.

"Itâs a huge honour for us to be recognised in the same awards night as our colleagues in film and television," commented project manager Jon Cartwright, "and this award is a testament to the dedication and hard work that the entire development team put into the project."

Publisher THQ also had kind words to say about the Blitz team's efforts, with director Duncan Kershaw stating that the company is "thrilled" with the recognition for the developer. "Representing The Fairly Oddparents TV show's unique visuals was key in delivering a truly authentic product, and extending Nickelodeon's brand into the video game world," he said. "We're delighted with the results, and congratulate Blitz on their award."
