Birmingham beat Rio Sinistro by 30 points to 16 across the total of five matches, and will face a team from Singapore in the second round next Tuesday.
In the other match yesterday a slightly closer contest saw Stockholm beat Sydney Underground by 27 points to 20. They will play Chicago Chimera, also on Tuesday.
The teams in this year's CGS World Final are contesting a USD 500,000 grand prize, with today's matches pitting Carolina against Seoul, while Mexico City receive a bye into the next round following the Chinese team's inability to secure a visa.
