Binns, Maxwell handed promotions at Future

Games portfolio split between two senior staff

Future Publishing has handed promotions to games publishing director James Binns and SFX and Total Film director Simon Maxwell.

From March 1, Binns will be responsible for the development of Edge, PC Gamer and PC Zone, as head of Edge International and PC gaming. Maxwell will take on all official and unofficial games magazines, as well as specialist games websites.

"The introduction of two new senior roles in our games portfolio will help us to further build our position as a world-leading games media company and expand our business across print, online, events and on-console," commented Robert Price, chief executive at Future.

"Simon is a great fit for this new role overseeing our console and online brands: he has proven, outstanding commercial acumen and leadership skills, having led in building Future’s film portfolio into a high-profile and commercially successful business.

"James’ games industry expertise is second-to-none and his new role will enable him to focus on growing Edge into a truly international brand and on managing the next stage for our PC gaming portfolio."

Last week, ABC results revealed that circulation for Future's games portfolio was down across the board, but the company has said that it intends to continue to support titles that suffered the biggest loss of readers.
