Billboard names BioWare “Game Developer of the Year”
Canadian developer awarded prestigious title at Billboard 2004 Digital Entertainment Awards
EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada, November 8, 2004 - BioWare Corp. was awarded the prestigious title of "Game Developer of the Year" at the Billboard 2004 Digital Entertainment Awards Gala (http://www.digitalentertainmentawards.com) on November 5, 2004. The award is given to the developer showing the best body of work distributed on any platform or combination of platforms over the last year. The 2003 Game of the Year Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on PC and Xbox, as well as expansion packs for the hit Neverwinter Nights series, greatly contributed to the company's success over that time period.
As the video-game industry continues to experience impressive growth and acceptance as mainstream entertainment, BioWare maintains its position as a leader in the development of story-focused role-playing games for PC and console systems. BioWare faced tremendous competition in this category, beating out other excellent development studios like Maxis, Pandemic Studios, and Ubisoft Montreal to claim the title of Game Developer of the Year.
"It is a great honor to be named Game Developer of the Year at the 2004 Billboard Entertainment Awards" said Dr. Greg Zeschuk, Joint CEO of BioWare Corp. "This award is truly a testament to the hard work of our entire staff, comprised of the most talented, creative, and original people in the world. This award recognizes their fantastic efforts over the last few years. "
"We're certainly thrilled about this award, and we are also excited about the future" added Dr. Ray Muzyka, Joint CEO of BioWare Corp. "With titles like the martial-arts action-RPG Jade Empire-to be published by Microsoft on the Xbox in March 2005-and the epic fantasy PC-RPG Dragon Age, as well as another unannounced title on the way, all based on new BioWare-created and owned intellectual properties, it is an exciting time for the company. Other exciting projects are underway within our Technology Architecture Group, working on our next-generation BioWare Eclipse EngineTM technology for PC and console; and the BioWare Community/Live Team, working on digital distribution initiatives."
