Bill Roper to keynote GDC China
Cryptic Studios exec and ex-Blizzard veteran to appear at Shanghai conference
Bill Roper, chief creative officer of Star Trek Online maker Cryptic Studios, is to keynote the third annual Game Developers Conference China.
As a former director of Blizzard Entertainment, Roper was heavily involved in the creation of key franchises such as Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. He then left the company to co-found Flagship Studios, where he worked on online title Hellgate: London.
GDC China remains the only game development event supported by the country's Ministry of Culture. It is due to take place at the Shanghai International Convention Center between December 5 and 7, 2010.
The conference plans to offer a variety of content tracks and summits, covering topics such as global game development, online game development and business, social games, mobile games and indie games.
To underscore its commitment to the latter, GDC China will also host the second annual Independent Games Festival China (IGF China).
"GDC China is the best place for developers to prepare domestic and international teams for the new world of game development. Bill's expertise helps cement GDC China's place as the essential event for learning, networking, and inspiration for the Chinese game development community," said event director Meggan Scavio.
GDC China 2009 attracted close to 3000 attendees and 60 exhibitors and sponsors, as well as speakers including Jordan Mechner, Haldor Fannar and Chris Hecker.
