Best Of The Decade

Half Life 2 voted as the most popular game of the last decade.

9th February 2010, London – IGN, the world’s largest video games and entertainment portal has today announced its ‘Best Of The Decade’ for video games and films. Valve’s seminal first person shooter sequel Half Life 2 took the Grand Prix as IGN’s most beloved video game of the noughties, while Batman epic The Dark Knight was judged the overall best film of the decade.

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto III was judged to be the best representative from the celebrated and headline grabbing series by claiming fourth spot, while

Team Ico’s Shadow Of The Colossus (No. 2), Bioware’s Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (No. 3) and Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy (No. 5) all featured in the top ten.

“The Best Of The Decade champions the very best of what has been a spectacular ten years for video games,” commented IGN UK Editor-in-Chief Alex Simmons. “When we compile the list for 2020 we expect the nature of the winning games to have evolved almost beyond recognition, with the advent of 3D and new motion controls promising an exciting future for our readers.”

IGN’s movie contingent followed the same process for the films of the decade and voted director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight as the overall winner. The list includes top all-time current box office hit Avatar at No. 5 – amongst other huge cinematic blockbusters Lord Of The Rings: Return of the King (No. 2), Casino Royale (No. 3), Spider-Man 2 (No. 4), Batman Begins (No. 6) and 300 (No. 9).

Chris Tilly, UK Entertainment Editor of IGN.com said “We’re very keen to see where the next wave of popular movies is going to take us in the new decade – our IGN audience are games enthusiasts who also love movies so they clearly enjoy the huge effects that come with new technology developments in cinema and big-hitter, big-screen movies.”

By compiling a top ten of each individual year, IGN’s staff then put the winners in order for the overall prize of ‘Best Of The Decade.’ IGN’s audience now exceeds 36 million readers worldwide who enjoy unrivalled editorial coverage of video games and movies by IGN’s global editorial experts.
