Chertsey, UK - August 10, 2005 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that, based on internal sell-in data, the award-winning game Battlefield 2TM has sold more than 1.2M copies worldwide. The critically acclaimed title boasts an average review score of 91 at Metacritic.com, placing it alongside the best-rated games of all time. Developed by Digital Illusions, the Battlefield franchise has now sold over 7.2M copies worldwide.

"The Battlefield franchise has proven to be a phenomenal hit with audiences worldwide," said Jonathan Bunney, Vice President Product Marketing at EA Europe. "As the sequel to one of the best loved PC action games of all time, Battlefield 2 was one of the most anticipated games of the year. Even in the face of high expectations, the game delivered on the promise of the series and raises the quality bar for future titles in the category."

Battlefield 2TM brings the intensity and excitement of its predecessors - Battlefield 1942TM and Battlefield VietnamTM- to the modern era with virtual versions of the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available. In Battlefield 2, players choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles or hone their skills against improved enemy intelligence in the single-player campaign before competing online with up to 64 players in some of the most intense battles on the PC. Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before. The game also features immense, rich details, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Enhanced team play allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With the new online character ranking and persistence, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals, and more.
