The nominations for this year's British Academy Video Games Awards have been announced, with Wii Sports bagging nominations in seven categories, including Best Game, Innovation and Sports.

Last year's must-have Xbox 360 title Gears of War followed close behind with six nominations, with Crackdown, God of War II and Okami taking 5 each.

The hotly-contested Best Game category includes BioShock, Crysis, Gears of War, Guitar Hero II, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Wii Sports.

The Academy Awards are all voted for by industry professionals, with the exception of the PC World Gamers Award, which is voted for by the public.
