Atari, Glu sponsor Mobile Game Mosh

24-hour game design event confirmed for March

A New York design school, has announced the Mobile Game Mosh, a 24-hour student mobile game design event in partnership with Atari, Glu Mobile and a number of additional sponsors.

Scheduled to run over three days from the 11th-13th March, the event will take place at Parsons in New York City, beginning with a tutorial and initial set up at 10.30am on the 11th, with the design race officially beginning at noon and ending at precisely the same time on the following day.

Participating teams will be provided with a mobile phone as a game design platform, and provided with any additional equipment and tools necessary, including on-going nutrition provision as the long hours draw in.

Teams are tasked with designing mobile games in one of two categories: single-player, mobile phone based games, or multiplayer games where the phones are used as an input device for an external display, such as the screens at Time Square.

Upon completion of the 24-hour design period, a panel of judges will assess the contributions and decide a winner, the prizes to be handed out at an awards ceremony on March 13th, at the end of the competition. The judging panel this year includes Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell, Gamelab's Eric Zimmerman, Cingular Wireless' Deanna Garcia and Carl Goodman from the Museum of Moving Images.

Prizes include games and software, with USD 1000 cash prize on offer for Best Visual and Best Sound Design, USD 1200 for Most Innovative Game Design and the grand prize for the Top Game award will earn the student design team USD 1500 in cash. Top Game winners will also have the opportunity to have their game published under the Atari name and distributed globally by Glu Mobile.

More information on the event, which follows last year's Retro themed design jam, can be found by visiting the official Mobile Game Mosh website.
