Software publisher Aspyr Media has announced the development of a new digital distribution service, allowing Macintosh users to purchase and download both casual and premium software titles.
The Gamerhood service will be free to download for all Mac users, allowing the selection, purchase and direct download of a range of games and entertainment using a standard Internet connection.
The comprehensive service includes numerous features to ensure that Mac users can enjoy the same benefits as the PC market, including the ability to play games without physical CD/DVD media, online game registration and automatic alerts for game updates, new content, special offers and forthcoming projects from Aspyr.
Gamerhood will also check compatibility by comparing a user's hardware against specific software's minimum specifications prior to purchase, and allow parents to implement restrictions on game play and online store purchases based on ESRB ratings.
The service is scheduled to launch this autumn and Aspyr will be releasing further information, including a list of games available from launch, within the coming few months.
