UK Charts: Euro 2004 goes top as Pokemon outsells Ninja Gaiden

Electronic Arts has scored its fourth number one of the year, with UEFA Euro 2004 taking the top spot in its second week on sale - while it's a good week for the Cube, with Pokemon Colosseum outselling Xbox exclusive Ninja Gaiden.

The Pokemon title - the first full Pokemon game for the GameCube platform - is at number two this week in the full price charts, just marginally behind the sales of the number one title, while Microsoft's Ninja Gaiden makes a respectable debut at number four.

Last week's number one, Hitman Contracts, drops down to number three in the chart as EA's Euro 2004 football title rises one place to take the number one spot.

The debut of Pokemon Colosseum marks the biggest launch for a Cube title since Mario Kart: Double Dash late last year, and the game - the first fully fledged home console RPG to bear the Pokemon brand - has achieved the eighth highest single-week sales for a Cube game on record.

There's one other debut in the top ten, with Midway's action horror title The Suffering making it in at number nine - one of the best performances for a title from the publisher in quite a while - while Vivendi's movie tie-in Van Helsing has a slightly disappointing start at number eleven.

The only other new title in the full price top 40 is Ubisoft's TV show tie-in CSI: Dark Motives, which appears at number 26 - but there's a first appearance in the ranking for Ubi's Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, with the superb but very niche GameCube title finally making an appearance in the all-formats full price chart at number 37 after sitting near the top of the GameCube exclusive chart for several weeks.

This week sees a number of games appearing which should dent the top of the chart, with Microsoft's Rallisport Challenge 2 appearing on Xbox, while Sony's Singstar arrives on the PlayStation 2 - with the company undoubtedly hoping to repeat the success of Eye Toy with this console karaoke system, which comes bundled with two microphones.
