Ubisoft announces plans for new Quebec studio
Following recent announcements that Ubisoft plans to create 1000 new jobs in the Quebec area by 2010, the publisher has unveiled proposals to open a new development studio in Quebec City.
Ubisoft will invest $75 million Canadian (more than $60 million US) in the project over the next five years. The new studio will employ some 200 designers, animators and programmers.
âOur expected growth in the five coming years will now come from both Montreal, as announced last February, and Quebec City,ââ said Martin Tremblay, president and COO of Ubisoftâs Montreal studios.
ââWe are convinced that the regionâs young creatives have a lot to offer Ubisoft. In return, we believe that our company can offer some very interesting career opportunities in a growing and dynamic sector of the digital entertainment industry. â
The announcement was made at a press conference also attended by transport minister Michel Desprîs, Quebec City mayor Jean-Paul L'Allier and Stîphane Mouchel-Vichard, MD of Gameloft Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ubisoft.
Ubisoft opened its Montreal studio in 1997, and predicted it would create around 800 jobs within ten years. More than 1000 staff currently work at the studio, and its recent projects include Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Myst IV: Revelation.
