PlaySpan acquires Spare Change
Payment solutions company adds social networks specialist to its portfolio
Online payments company PlaySpan has announced the acquisition of Spare Change, a firm which specialises in handling micro-transactions for social networks.
The move will bring under one organisation the Spare Change, PayByCash, Ultimate Game Card and Ultimate Points brands that will total over 80 different payment methods available in 190 countries.
"Spare Change was designed specifically for social networks, so it complements our existing monetization platform for online games and virtual worlds," said Karl Mehta, founder and CEO of PlaySpan.
"Combining Spare Change's fast growing user base with our deep operational experience and trusted brands provides a one stop monetisation solution for our developers and publisher partners worldwide.
"In addition, its founders, Lex Bayer, Simon Ru, and Mark Rose have impressive social network monetization experience that will complement our management team and add significant value to our clients and end users. We are very excited to add Spare Change to the PlaySpan platform."
PlaySpan will pick up specific expertise in networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, with Spare Change having already served over 1 million customers across 700 apps on those platforms.
