24th April 2006. Today, CNET Networks UK
launches GameSpot UK (http://www.gamespot.co.uk), an unbiased,
interactive and engaging website 100% focused on games. The
site, which focuses on the UK and European gaming markets,
instantly becomes a leading online destination for UK gamers,
providing them with content and resources on their favourite
games. The UK audience will also be part of a worldwide
community of 26 million GameSpot gamers who use the sites'
innovative community features to contribute content and to
network with other gamers.
Jill Orr, Head of Consumer Publishing at CNET Networks UK
said, "It's great to bring a trusted global brand such as
GameSpot to the UK. Research shows us that today's gamers are
going online for the information and social networking they
want - and the launch of GameSpot UK provides our readers
with the GameSpot experience they already
love, with the added benefit of a UK editorial focus."
More than 1.3 million UK gamers already use the worldwide
GameSpot site every month, and most importantly, UK gamers
visit GameSpot more often, read more of its pages, and spend
more time with it, than with any other UK gaming content
site*. Now all this activity is coming to the UK. GameSpot UK
has dedicated editorial and advertising teams based in London
- the new site will deliver content focused around the games
that British gamers want to read about, as well as provide
targeted and integrated ad solutions for UK advertisers. The
UK editorial team will cover:
- Gaming related news coming out of the UK and Europe.
- Previews, Features. Reviews and Interviews from the UK and European games market
- UK release dates for new games
- UK editorial within podcasts and video programmes that are part of the GameSpot package of rich media content
"The UK market is an exciting opportunity for the expansion
of GameSpot", noted Vince Broady, co-founder of GameSpot
& Senior Vice President of CNET Networks' Entertainment
division. "In addition to the huge population of UK gamers we
can better serve with our UK website, European publishers and
developers are growing the global gaming market with many
interesting and innovative games. Better coverage of these
developments across the board is critical to our GameSpot
audience, and essential to the global gaming community at
large."
