Global video games market predicted to hit $197bn in 2022

The new Newzoo report estimates that mobile games will make up $103.5 billion of the year's total revenue

A new report from Newzoo today says that the global video games market is estimated to make $197 billion in revenue for the year of 2022.

The market intelligence firm says that the figure represents an increase of 2.1% year-over-year.

Newzoo attributes mobile game consumer spending as the main driver of 2022's total worldwide consumer spending.

Mobile titles are expected to earn $103.5 billion and make up 53% of the global games market.

Meanwhile, console will remain the next biggest segment of the market at 27% of worldwide earnings, with revenues predicted to reach $53 billion by the end of the year.

The rest of global video game spending will go on PC games, forecasted to reach $40.4 million.

In terms of region revenue during 2022, the North American games market is on pace to reach $51.3 billion and Europe is expected to make $34.1 billion.

Africa and the Middle East is projected to amass $7.1 billion in spending this year, while Latin America is predicted to hit $8.7 billion.

Looking ahead Newzoo estimates that in 2025 the global video games market will generate $225.7 billion in revenue.
