UK Charts: Jurassic World narrowly misses No.1 as Crash Bandicoot holds firm
Or did it?
The retail version of Jurassic World Evolution is No.2 in the UK Top 40 charts.
It misses out on the top spot by just 3,000 units as Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy enjoys its second No.1 of 2018, following the launch of the Switch and Xbox One editions last week.
Jurassic World: Evolution is published by Frontier, with the boxed edition handled by Sold Out. 60% of the physical sales were on PS4, with the rest coming on Xbox One.
Of course it was probably not really No.2 at all, because this chart doesn't include digital sales, and Jurassic World Evolution's home platform was PC (which was digital-only). The PC edition launched on Steam on June 12th and is already one of the best-selling games on the digital store this year, so the true scale of its success is hard to judge.
In terms of revenue, Jurassic World was actually No.1 due to the higher price of the game compared with Crash Bandicoot.
Speaking of Crash Bandicoot, out of the two new versions, the Xbox One edition continues to sell a bit better than the Switch SKU (for the second week in a row). Xbox One has a strong base of fans in the UK, whereas across Europe the make-up is different. As a result, Crash Bandicoot on Switch is the more popular version across the continent (PS4 edition arrived in 2017).
The Crew 2 dropped a few places this week to No.3 with a 45% sales drop - which is not a heavy fall for a second week on sale. However, the game has yet to impress, and is trending behind its predecessor.
With football dominating the TV, and with the absence of a serious British contender at Wimbledon, Mario Tennis Aces is drifting down the charts despite a sustained PR and marketing campaign from Nintendo.
Next week, however, should be an interesting one for Nintendo with a number of Switch titles launching - including first-party release Captain Toad and Square Enix exclusive Octopath Traveller. LEGO The Incredibles looks likely to be the biggest new game this week.
