Minecraft creator unveils 0x10c, entertains subscription fee

Mojang's Marcus Persson details new sci-fi MMO title

The next title from Minecraft creator Marcus "Notch" Persson has been unveiled, and is in an "extremely early [stage of] development." The new site announcing 0x10c is a rapid departure from the "rustic" feel of Minecraft, opting instead to go for a science fiction setting.

Notch has promised that the game will be centered on such gaming elements as engineering, space battles, and seamless landings on planets as well as "duct tape!" The game will also have a sort of "1980's feel" to it, with gamers being forced to work on a ship that emulates a 16-bit CPU.

The game also promises to bridge single and multiplayer through a multiverse mechanism, one that Notch has admitted will see possible monthly fees. While the single player will not cost anything past the sale price of the game, online could very well see a recurring payment plan.
