Argos to stock new Cars game exclusively in the UK
Another game to be released exclusively at a retailer
UK retailer Argos will be the only place to buy the physical version of Cars 3: Driven to Win.
It follows news that GAME has signed GameStop's Deformers exclusively, also in the UK.
It's not unusual for retailers to secure exclusive editions, content and even games to stock in their stores, but this development may become more common place as the larger outlets focus increasingly on the big triple-A releases. GAME, for instance, has outsourced the buying of titles outside of the major triple-A launches.
The deal for the new Cars 3 game also highlights the growing prominence of Argos in the games retail space. The firm has a large store estate of over 750 outlets (more than double GAME's store count), which makes it the largest High Street retail chain that sells games in the country.
The retailer is likely to become more significant following its acquisition by Sainsbury's 12 months ago, with Argos functions already being incorporated into the supermarket.
Cars 3: Driven To Win is the first title following the relaunch of Avalanche Software, and the latest collaboration between movie rivals Disney and Warner.
