Amerzone

12 year old adventure game adapted for iOS devices.

Launched nearly 12 years ago, Amerzone quickly established itself as a mainstay of the adventuregame market and the Microids portfolio. Having sold more than 1 million copies, the title has proved hugely popular with gamers, who showered it with praise on its launch.

One of the architects of this success is Benoit Sokal, the game’s designer and art director. Sokal began his career as a comic strip writer and earned international acclaim for his Inspector Canardo series, which was translated into 10 languages. One of the first artists to switch to video games, Sokal then launched the Amerzone project, followed by Syberia in 2002 and Syberia 2 in 2004, both of which became bestsellers. Through his art, Sokal focuses on the adventures of the story’s protagonist and places a strong emphasis on the relationships binding his highly original characters.

Inspired by the comic strip of the same name, Amerzone casts gamers as a nameless young reporter who visits an elderly explorer by the name of Alexandre Valembois. Nearing the end of his life and wracked with guilt, Valembois entrusts the young man with the hazardous task of returning an egg he had stolen 50 years earlier in the wild and uncharted country of Amerzone.

With the launch of Amerzone on iPhone, Anuman Interactive is continuing to pursue its massmarket strategy and consolidate its status as a specialist adventure-game publisher. “This is a continuation of our strategy of publishing major titles on mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad,” said Anuman Interactive CEO Stephane Longeard. “Following the releases of Dracula, Return to Mysterious Island, Egypt and Nostradamus, Amerzone will give occasional and advanced gamers a chance to acquaint or reacquaint themselves with a truly classic adventure game.”

“I am delighted to see one of my creations pass from one generation to another,” added Sokal. I’m also pleased that one of my creations has found its way on to Apple’s mobile platform, which shows that the adventure game is continuing to evolve with the release of new devices. I’ve no doubt Amerzone will conquer the hearts of gamers once again.”

The game will be available on April 2011 on iPhone and iPad.
