AMD completes US $5.4 billion ATI acquisition

AMD has completed its acquisition of graphics specialist ATI Technologies, a deal worth approximately US $5.4 billion.

AMD has completed its acquisition of graphics specialist ATI Technologies, a deal worth approximately US $5.4 billion.

Now the firm intends to create hybrid 'Fusion' technology, using the two companies specialism in central and graphics processors, with the first fruits due in 2008.

"On day one, we are delivering a winning set of complimentary technologies, igniting a new level of innovation and continuing to champion choice for the industry," said CEO of AMD Hector Ruiz.

AMD also plans to deliver a range of solutions for technology markets in 2007, including mobile, gaming and media computing.

"By driving innovation and integration in processing, especially in graphics, the new AMD has the potential to empower breakthrough computing experiences for users of Windows Vista," added Jim Allchin, co-president of Microsoftâs platforms division.
