Activision ponders Guitar Hero TV show/concert

Kotick talks TV and movie tie-ins for Guitar Hero and beyond

Guitar Hero could be turned into a reality TV show or a real-world concert tour, according to comments made by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.

Following the company's better than expected first quarter financial results, Kotick refused to speculate on ongoing rumours of a Guitar Hero motion picture. However, according to a Reuters report he did state that: "It might make for a good TV show or a good concert tour."

A Guitar Hero movie was first suggested by Rush Hour and X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner last summer, but Activision was at the time dismissive of the idea.

A World of Warcraft film has long been mooted, while Reuters suggests that a film based on the Call of Duty series is also under discussion. So far though Activision has not formally announced any adaptations of its properties, although it often relies on prominent movie tie-ins for its own games.

Discussing the subject further Kotick suggested that family-friendly games such as Guitar Hero in particular, were "capturing leisure time away from TV and film."
