Activision and Nintendo to be 'most successful' in 2009

Industry professionals reveal backing for publishers and format holders in exclusive survey

Over 300 industry professionals have voted in the first ever GamesIndustry.biz Network Survey, revealing which platforms and publishers they expect to be the most successful in 2009.

The survey was open to all members of the GamesIndustry.biz Network, and included all sectors of the business, from retail to publishing, and all roles, from testers to senior executives.

Given Nintendo's current success, it's perhaps no surprise to see professionals expect Nintendo to be the most successful platform holder in 2009, with 54.4 per cent of votes backing the Kyoto giant.

Microsoft and the Xbox 360 gained 24.4 per cent, while Sony and the PlayStation 3 netted 16.2 per cent of votes.

In the publishing stakes, Activision Blizzard is expected to have the most successful 2009, with 30.6 per cent of those surveyed supporting the publisher of such mega-hits as Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and the World of Warcraft MMO.

Nintendo gained 20.7 per cent of votes, just ahead of Electronic Arts with 19.7 per cent. Prince of Persia publisher Ubisoft received 8.1 per cent of the votes, while Capcom registered 4.1 per cent.

Sony was backed by 3.4 per cent, Microsoft 2.7 per cent and Codemasters 0.9 per cent of voters. Twelve other publishers made up the remaining 9.8 per cent.
