Abertay gains fourth Skillset accredited course
Professional masters in computer games development gets industry tick
The professional masters in computer games development course at Abertay University in Dundee has been given a Skillset accreditation tick, making it the country's tenth and the fourth at Abertay.
The Skillset Tick is intended to identify courses which contain the most up to date and relevant industry training. The system was recommended for expansion by Ian Livingstone after the Livingstone Hope skills review found that students from Skillset accredited course were three times as likely to find an industry job in the first six months after graduation.
"Abertay's formula of ensuring that the needs and involvement of games developers is at the heart of their courses has made them a beacon of best practice in the field of computer games education. The simple fact that four of the 10 Skillset-accredited games courses in the UK are at Abertay is recognition of that fact," said Livingstone of the new accreditation.
"Abertay University is delighted that the achievement of the Institute of Arts, Media and Computer Games, working together with the computer games industry to make this course a success has been recognised" added Abertay's director of academic enterprise Gregor White.
"The course is designed to develop individuals and teams to have an immediate impact in development companies and to encourage new start-up studios. We are very excited about the future of the course and its graduates."
The Skillset accreditation panel is formed from members of several UK and international publishers and studios.
