A Stroke of Fate

A look at the game's minor characters.

June, 3, 2010

Akella tells about A Stroke of Fate’s minor characters:

Today we will talk about minor characters in "A Stroke of Fate". They are not as important to the storyline as the protagonist and the main cast, but they create the atmosphere of the game, they live in the ingame locations, they have emotions and feelings, and they live their own lives, often independent of the protagonist's actions. Play "A Stroke of Fate" and see what could the lives of common folk in the wartime look like.

The first hero of today's story is Shoss, airfield technician at the Eagle's Nest castle. He doesn't approve the Nazi's doctrine, moreover – he sympathizes with the Communists and he even has a copy of Marx's "Manifest" at his place, perfectly aware that he would have to answer to the Secret State Police for keeping forbidden literature. He used to have a son, but he was killed in action, fighting for Nazi's ideals? Who can tell what thoughts are now in his mind? Shoss is now disappointed not only in the national idea, but in the life itself. Where will it lead him?

This is Stobbe, another ordinary worker at the airfield at the Eagle's Nest castle. For the hell of it or due to the specifics of his character he is heavily drinking. He's quite drunk even now. But how did he find out that Shoss was hiding the forbidden "Manifest"? By the way, it is him who inspects the Führer's plane before departure. And what can Meier do with this information?

If you have time – stop for a chit-chat with a newsman, a 40-45 years old man. He lives his life and brings news to the people – both joyful and sad ones. For some reasons he's not conscripted, but even in the wartime there's need in peaceful labour. He is meeting many military men and must have access to a lot of information.

And, finally, make acquaintance of an old nice, kind and talkative lady. In her youth she was a great dancer; now she has a son, who is fighting at the front lines. She likes telling stories of him – and of her lodgers, too - she rents out apartments in a house opposite to general Beck's mansion.
