Vivendi Universal has announced that multi-format title 50 Cent: Bulletproof has proved to be a hit with gamers, with more than 1 million copies sold in the US and UK since the game launched last November.

50 Cent: Bulletproof sees players taking on the role of the controversial rapper as he makes his way through New York's underworld, backed up by his "G Unit". The game was released for PS2 and Xbox on November 25, and was broadly panned by critics - but consumers appear to disagree.

"Gamers and 50 fans alike have enthusiastically responded to the groundbreaking fusion of frenetic gameplay and the lyrical imagery of the exclusive 50 Cent music tracks in 50 Cent: Bulletproof," said VUG's Cindy Cook.

"The strong sales of Bulletproof underscore the undeniable appeal of the artist, his music and the engaging interactive experience that this game delivers."

A PSP version of 50 Cent: Bulletproof is due out later this year.
