3DS accounts for 65 per cent of Japanese hardware sales

Nintendo handheld dominates, Kingdom Hearts 3DS enters software chart at number one

The 3DS reasserted its dominance in Japan as Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance entered the software charts at number one.

According to data from Media Create, reported by Andriasang, the Square Enix release sold 213,579 units during the week ending April 1 - more than twice the amount sold by its nearest rival, Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 2012.

Buoyed by the success of Kingdom Hearts, the 3DS held on to the top-spot in the hardware chart with 121,921 sales - an increase of almost 30,000 units over the previous week. The 3DS now accounts for almost 65 per cent of all hardware sales in the country.

However, Sony's rival handheld, the PlayStation Vita, continued to struggle, selling just 12,105 units with a single game in the software top 20: New Little King Story, a revamped version of the 2009 Wii release.
