3D titles suffering from poor marketing, says Glu
Handset gaming capabilities not sold to consumers, argues White
The sale of 3D games is being hampered by poor marketing that fails to explain the gaming capabilities of technologically advanced handsets, according to Glu Mobile's head of EMEA studios Chris White.
Speaking at the Develop Mobile Conference this morning, White argued that stores are failing to sell the virtues of 3D gaming to consumers.
"One of the most obvious ways that mobile platform has evolved in 2007 has been in the quality of the 3D titles on offer. The quality of some of these titles is actually ahead of user expectations and many do not realise quite what their handsets are capable of," said White.
"We're not at a stage where many phones' games capabilities are marketed particularly heavily - if I go into a mobile phone shop and buy a new Nokia phone I don't know necessarily whether its going to be able to run mobile games or not."
White hopes that dedicated gaming handsets will help the sale of 3D games in 2008, and that a more universal definition of gaming handsets would assist mobile gaming in reaching a wider audience in the future.
