2010 Game Developers Conference
306 entries received for the IGF 2010 competition - the most ever.
SAN FRANCISCO — Nov. 5, 2009 — The 2010 Independent Games Festival (IGF 2010) has received a record number of entries to the Main Competition. In total, this year's Main Competition has garnered 306 game entries, many of which were created by leading independent game developers.
The record-setting number of Main Competition entries represents a 35% increase over last year's record 226 entries, which in itself represented a 30% increase over the previous year, providing further evidence of the growing significance and prominence of independent game development.
Now in its 12th year, IGF is an event that recognizes the best and brightest indie game developers and their creations. Notable former IGF winners include Everyday Shooter, Audiosurf, World of Goo, Blueberry Garden, Darwinia, Castle Crashers, and many more. The Independent Games Festival takes place March 9-13, 2010 during the Game Developers Conference at San Francisco's Moscone Center.
From the pool of 306 entries, the finalists will be decided by more than 150 leading industry judges, and announced in January 2010. Games selected as finalists will be available in playable form on the GDC show floor and will compete for nearly $50,000 in prizes, including awards for Excellence in Design, Art, the Audience Award and the coveted $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Winners will be announced at the IGF ceremony, taking place March 11, 2010, during the Game Developers Conference.
For aspiring student and mobile game developers, the IGF is still accepting submissions for the Student Showcase category of the IGF, with a deadline of November 15, 2009. Entries to the Independent Games Festival Mobile (IGF Mobile) competition are due by December 1, 2009. The IGF Mobile is a competition to showcase the best independent development on the Sony PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Android and the increasingly-prominent iPhone software platforms.
