Uncharted 2 wins at Spike awards
New Force Unleashed, Rock Band, Spec Ops and True Crime titles also announced at US show
As predicted the Spike Video Game Awards show at the weekend featured the debut of a number of new games which had never before been seen or announced, including a sequel to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Although little known outside the US, the show featured a series of game reveals and celebrity appearances, threatening to push the awards themselves into the background.
The most unexpected reveal was a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum from Warner Bros, while other debuts included LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Take-Two Interactive's Spec Ops: The Line, MTV Games' Green Day: Rock Band and a new title in Activision's True Crime series.
Previously announced games which choose to debut their first trailers during the show included Bungie's Halo: Reach, EA's new Medal of Honor, Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, THQ's UFC Undisputed 2010, Disney's Tron Evolution and TV tie-in Deadliest Warrior.
A more detailed trailer for Crackdown 2 was also unveiled for the first time - one of the few trailers to feature actual in-game footage rather than pre-rendered scenes.
In terms of the actual awards, the Game of the Year gong went to Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Studio of the Year went to UK team Rocksteady Studios, developer of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
