Sony announces PSP 3000 details for Japan
New edition of the handheld to retail at same price point as the old version
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced its Japanese plans regarding the new PlayStation Portable 3000 edition, which was unveiled at Games Convention in Leipzig this year.
The unit will retail for JPY 19,800 (USD 182), the same amount as the existing version of the handheld, and will be released on October 16, according to Reuters.
In comparison the Nintendo DS currently retails at JPY 16,800 (USD 155), and the two portable consoles have enjoyed a healthy rivalry in the past couple of years.
The PSP 3000 is an upgrade of the existing PSP hardware, and will feature an enhanced screen as well as a built-in microphone - both elements which Sony hope will enhance its reputation as a mobile media device.
