Rumour: Virgin Gaming is prize-based tournament site
Online report claims that Richard Branson's latest will offer cash prizes to console players
Online reports suggest that Richard Branson's new Virgin Gaming initiative is an online tournament-based service run by the Canadian company responsible for WorldGaming.
The Virgin Gaming brand was first teased last week, with the opening of an official website and a promise to reveal more at E3 later this month.
Consumer website MaxConsole has traced the technical contact for the website VirginGaming.com to Toronto company Entertainment Tech, and MaxConsole claims that the company identified itself as Virgin Gaming and implied that the new service would be a skill-based community site similar to WorldGaming.
WorldGaming.com allows PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers to win cash prizes by competing in online tournaments against similarly skilled opponents. Currently supported games include Halo 3, FIFA 10, Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm 2.
Future support is also promised for games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, UFC Undisputed 2010, Grand Turismo 5 and Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Virgin Interactive operated as a major publisher in Europe during the '90s, working with developers such as Westwood Studios and Shiny Entertainment - as well as publishers such as Capcom.
