Piranha announces titles developed with Infernal Engine
Ghostbusters engine licensed to Piranha Games for hunting, fishing sims
Developer Terminal Reality has announced that its proprietary Infernal Engine has been licensed by Piranha Games for two upcoming titles.
In a press release issued this week, Terminal Reality revealed that game engine, which the studio is currently using for its upcoming multi-platform Ghostbusters title, is being used by Piranha games for two upcoming titles, The Strike and The Hunt.
"The world of videogames is a varied one. Everyone knows about Ghostbusters, but we at Terminal Reality believe in the extreme versatility of the Infernal Engine," said Terminal Reality VP of sales and marketing Joe Kreiner, pointing out that Piranha's two titles, which apparently employ fishing pole and rifle accessories for gameplay, "shows how well the Infernal Engine works with gaming peripherals."
"We used the Infernal Engine to develop Bass Pro Shops The Strike. The engine was very versatile, allowing us the freedom to create immense environments with a high level of realistic detail," said Piranha Games president Russ Bullock. "Most impressive is that we did not have to sacrifice the level size when we developed The Strike for the Nintendo Wii. This truly is a cross-platform engine. As well, the support we received from Terminal Reality was really impressive."
The Infernal Engine is a cross-platform development solution that includes rendering, physics, particle effects, shaders, sound and AI tools. It is designed for simultaneous game development on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and is scalable for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.
As revealed in February, Piranha is one of six developers that have licensed the engine so far. The other announced partners include Escalation Studios, Threewave Software, Red Fly Studio, SpiderMonk Entertainment and Wideload Games.
