Nintendo targets mothers with new DS bundle
North American package to include Personal Trainer: Cooking
Nintendo will release a new Nintendo DS hardware and software package aimed at Mother's Day gift shopers in North America on May 3.
The package will contain a lime green-coloured DS Lite, a copy of the Personal Trainer: Cooking programme, and a fashionable carrying case.
The system has not yet been officially announced, but according to various online reports, it was available for pre-order on the Canadian website of major retailer Best Buy at a price of CAD 159.99 earlier today. At press time the product appears to have been pulled from the online catalogue.
Mother's Day will be celebrated in North America on May 10, and while it is clear that this package is aimed at the holiday market, it is unclear if the product will be a limited time offering.
In January, Nintendo announced that Personal Trainer: Cooking, known as Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What To Eat? in Europe and Australia, had sold 1.68 million units worldwide. Nintendo launched an aggressive marketing campaign for the title during the holiday 2008 season with actress Lisa Kudrow.
Attempts at contacting Nintendo for official price point clarification and availability outside of Canada have thus far gone unanswered.
