Handheld sales leaving consoles behind in Japan

DSi, DS, PSP sell over 106,000 units combined in region

Sales of handheld consoles are far outpacing home machines in Japan, with over 106,000 DSi, DS and PSP units sold in the past week.

According to the latest data from Media Create, Nintendo's DS series sold 56,673 unit for the week ended May 3, while Sony's PSP shifted a further 49,557 units.

Combined sales of four home consoles only reached just under 58,000 units, with the PlayStation 3 leading sales at 23,588 units sold, compared to 21,546 Wii's and 7313 Xbox 360's in the region. The PlayStation 2 sold 5479 units.
