EA acquires ThreeSF
EA acquires social networking service created by Napster founder Shawn Fanning
Electronic Arts has announced it has acquired ThreeSF and its Rupture service - a social network for gamers.
ThreeSF is a San Francisco company founded by Shawn Fanning, who is best known as the founder of file-sharing services Napster and SnoCap. Rupture gives computer gamers the ability to spread the word of their online accomplishments.
According to the LA Times, a person familiar with the deal said EA had paid roughly USD 30 million.
EA did not disclose any financial terms, however, and said only that it would release additional information about its plans for ThreeSF in the weeks ahead.
The acquisition was initially revealed last month, and that Fanning and co-founder Jon Baudanza would now join EA.
