Battlefield Heroes beta starts up again

Sign-up begins for new testers for EA's free-to-play shooter

Electronic Arts and its Swedish studio DICE have announced that beta testing for Battlefield Heroes has begun again.

Last year the company closed down the beta of the free-to-play online shooter, as it concentrated on stabilising the backend technology.

Before the delay, DICE's Ben Cousens told GamesIndustry.biz that Battlefield Heroes was effectively "already out" and there were plans to roll out the beta to any hardcore gamer that wanted to join.

Battlefield Heroes is EA's first attempt at building a game around the free-to-play model, popular in Asia. The company is also trying out other emerging online business models, including the digital sale of racing title Burnout Paradise via the PlayStation Network, and continued support of casual portal Pogo.com.
