Farming Simulator 17 hits 1 million sales in a month
Most of the PC copies were bought at physical retail
PC and console game Farming Simulator 17 has sold 1 million copies in less than a month, publisher Focus Home Interactive says.
The company adds that this result is almost twice as much as what the previous title had managed. The last Farming Simulator ended up selling 3 million units in two years.
PC is the primary platform for the game but, unusually, the majority of these PC sales were bought physically. Steam accounted for 220,000 of the digital sales, Focus claims.
Farming Simulator 17 at launch debuted at No.1 in Germany, No.3 in Scandinavia, No.4 in France and No.5 in the UK.
The Farming Simulator series has developed a cult following, and its success at retail suggests it appeals to a slightly different market than the typical PC gamer.
"Reaching 1 million players in such a short amount of time is simply amazing, says Thomas Frey, creative director at developer GIANTS Software.
"It makes us very happy to see that Farming Simulator 17 is being received so well after all the work we've put in the game and the additional people we brought on board to make our largest project ever come to life."
Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive added: "Farming Simulator was always a game for fans, but with Farming Simulator 17 it has expanded into a whole new experience for a wide audience, who needed to be offered new things in video games. Giants Software has done an exceptional job with Farming Simulator 17, and we are very proud to have collaborated with them for five years now."
