Twitch suffers security breach

Streaming service warns users that phone numbers, home addresses, other info may have been compromised

Video streaming service Twitch this week informed users that it suffered a security breach possibly resulting in unauthorized access to some users' personal account information.

Information at risk of being taken included user names, e-mail addresses, cryptographically protected passwords, and last-used IP address. Any other information users opted to provide the service--including real names, phone numbers, addresses, and dates of birth--was also vulnerable.

As a result of the breach, Twitch expired all passwords and stream keys, as well as connections to Twitter or YouTube accounts. Users must now create a new password to log back into the service, as well as reconnect with or re-authenticate through external sites.

"We apologize for this inconvenience," the company said in a mass e-mail to affected users.
