Square Enix: Hacked servers contained data from 1.8m users
Names and e-mail addresses of Japanese and American customers compromised
Square Enix has confirmed that up to 1.8 million customers could be affected by the attack on its member service earlier this week.
According to a report on France24, the hacker breached servers containing the names and e-mail addresses of 800,000 members in North America and 1 million members in Japan.
However, the servers contained no credit card or billing information, and the servers containing European member information were not involved.
The attack was first discovered on Tuesday, prompting Square Enix to take its member service offline.
"We are yet to learn whether illegal access was gained to our clients' information," a spokeswoman for the company said. "But we have asked our customers to be aware of the incident in case they receive suspicious messages using our name."
