Global Xbox 360 sales hit 55 million
35m active Xbox Live subscribers, Kinect passes 10m units
Microsoft's Xbox 360 has passed 55 million units sold worldwide, according to the company.
The numbers were announced in the run up to E3 2011, with the company set to shed light on new titles, services and technology in LA this week.
"Xbox 360 maintains its lead in the US as the top selling console in 2011, and 10 of the past 11 months," said Microsoft.
"In the first four months of 2011, Xbox 360 has seen a 29 per cent year over year increase in sales, which is more than triple the growth of PlayStation 3 and the largest growth of any console on the market."
According to Microsoft there are 35 million active Xbox Live subscribers spending an average of 60 hours a month on the service. Between them, Xbox Live subscribers are said to log 2.1 billion "entertainment hours" on the online service.
Kinect, the motion control peripheral released last year, has now sold 10 million units and the same number of software titles, said Microsoft.
