Dare to be Digital makes final call for entries
Applications to student competition must be received by this Sunday
Organisers of the Dare to be Digital student competition have warned that entries for the 2011 event must be in by this Sunday, April 3.
The leading game design competition invites teams of five to design and build a fully-working game within a nine week period at the University of Abertay Dundee. The three winners are then nominated for the Ones to Watch BAFTA award.
Thanks to increased funding from the Scottish government, this year's event will expand to encompass teams from Finland and Iceland, as well as Norway, Denmark, Sweden, China and India.
The competition will also be televised for the first time, with a three-party documentary on Channel 4 called Crunchtime.
Further information on the event and instructions on how to apply are available at the official website.
"We're down to the last week of entries, and we're strongly encouraging students who are excited about computer games and want to break into the industry to apply now," said Dr Louis Natanson, academic director of the institute of arts, media and computer games at Abertay University.
"Dare to be Digital is a life-changing experience for many young developers, artists and audio engineers, giving them money-can't-buy access to personal mentoring from some of the world's leading game companies," he added.
"Dare to be Digital is great fun every year, and working in an incredibly competitive and exciting environment helps all the students develop their personal and professional skills way beyond what they arrive with," said Dare to be Digital project manager Elaine Russell.
"So, any student who wants to get their big break in the games industry should get a team together and apply right away!"
